Jubiloso: defined as joyous, rejoicing, and elated.
Last year my grandmother got me a necklace with “jubiloso” on it. She intended that I take it on my journey abroad to Costa Rica. The thing that gets me, it’s more than just a necklace. It is a piece of advice. The advice is to go out into this journey with joy, rejoicing in every up and down and being ecstatic about trying something new. Going abroad is going to be very challenging. With having to speak a new language, live with a new family, learn to grow in a new community and stay strong in my own faith. BUT the catch is…the challenge is what I want. Simply, holding on to that piece of advice and trusting in the Lord I know that I will have some of the best 4 months.
Isaiah 55:12 says:
“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.”
A little bit of Joy, Peace and Jesus are all I need!
In 2 days I will be getting on that plane carrying a little bit of baggage. My baggage includes: a whole lot of emotions (sadness, excitement, nervousness), some good reads, and OH my bags full of the real “essentials” (clothes, toothbrush, underwear, etc..). This baggage represents who I am. What I mean by this is that I want to stay true to who I am here in Boise, when I leave to get on that plane I bring my whole self to Costa Rica. I will not be a different Maddie there than I am here.
It’s a little cheesy, but it’s a challenge. I am sure that I will grow and develop new interests and skills, but when I come back I’ll still Maddie.
These past two years, I’ve been able to discover who I am as a person without letting others shape me. I would like to continue that mentality in a completely new environment.
I want to use this blog to be real and honest with you. Enjoy!
Here’s to what’s to come!
Talk to ya in Costa Rica
